The International Edible Book Festival in Northwood, New Hampshire

by Mercie Hallow

I am a self-confessed book addict. I acquire this taste for books from my mom who is a voracious reader herself. I practically grew up in the presence of books and novels as you can see these things lying around our house everyday. A very good piece of book can really make my day. Books are once of my collections and I would never get tired of collecting those, ever. I hope that my daughter would acquire the same penchant on reading just like me. That will make us already 3 generations of bookworms.

Cooking for Dummies

by charlie reese

In our grandparent’s time, cooking from scratch was the norm. People the didn’t have aisles and aisles of frozen, ready to eat meals, nor the extensive selection of deli items we enjoy today. As more and more women entered the workforce, with full time jobs, families began to rely on the ready to eat and take out options in order to put food on the table quickly. Busy schedules don’t allow for lengthy preparations of food, as was the case in the past.

Unique Chrisitan Comics

One of the most difficult areas of debate and controversy in my church is Christian entertainment. We are a very conservative church and, although all of us are saved, not all of us have the same view about what constitutes appropriate and inappropriate entertainment values.

Take Christian the comics debate. My son has been reading Marvel comics for the past year or two, and I didn’t really see anything wrong with them after casually perusing them. The ones he was reading have a very clear view of good and evil, and seem to teach him that a superhero ” someone with unusual strength and power ” should use that power to help the weak.

Children and Books

by charlie reese

With the alarming rate of illiteracy in the U.S. today, it’s imperative that parents introduce children to books at an early age. It should be a fact that children and books go together like two (happy) peas in a pod. We can make that happen. A love of reading encourages an inquisitive mind, critical thinking skills, helps develop a sense of humor, increases a desire for knowledge and moral values. Books can help a child learn empathy and compassion for others.
